Prayer.
Palm Crosses
As we approach Ash
Wednesday on the 13th February you are invited to return last year’s
Palm crosses so they can be prepared as ash for this year’s imposition of ash. They
may be left at the back of Church or given to Revd. Hilary.
ASH WEDNESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY 7.00PM ST.NEWLINA
LENT LUNCHES
Watch out for posters advertising the popular Friday Lent lunches, which
will start on Friday, 15 February from 12 noon in the Oxnam Room. There will be
soup, roll and butter and a pudding, all for only £4.00, and we hope that there
will be a takeaway service as well. The lunches are all provided by volunteers
drawn from the Anglican and Methodist churches.
ST NEWLINA’S FEAST WEEKEND
This year following
the success of last years wedding dress display the parish church would like to
put on a display of photos taken in and around St Newlyn East over the past 60
years. Do you have photos of any of the numerous organisations we have had in
the village in the past and still active to this day. Maybe you have carnival
photos, school photos, girl guide/ brownie, scout/ cubs, church fete, women's
institute, sports clubs and so many more .Perhaps photos of before any new
housing was built, the possibilities are endless. If you have anything you
think people would like to see and remember from the past please contact Linda
Angove on 510778
CHRISTMAS
COLLECTIONS
We are pleased to
announce that we have been able to send a donation of £212 to the Precious
Lives appeal which was collected at the Christmas lights service, the carol
service and the special tree in church.
Also we have sent a donation of £158 to the Church of England Children’s
Society from the collection at the crib service. At the request of the PCC it
will be used by this National organisation to fund work for children in
Cornwall, in which we can be involved. To find out more, the link
is http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk/what-you-can-do/your-church/good-childhood-conversations
FOODBANK
Thanks to the generosity of people in the village, we have been able to
give the FoodBank a further 36kg of food, which is an amazing total. During
Lent there will be a FoodBank collection box in the church so we can continue to support this charity.
We would like to thank Dave and Corinne for kindly keeping our collection box
in the Londis shop during December and also thanks to the school for continuing
to collect food.
JANUARY’S CURRY
AND QUIZ NIGHT
This event raised £200 for the church and was enjoyed by everyone who
attended. Special thanks go to the quizmaster, Steve, for his entertaining and challenging questions
and to Tim and his team at the Pheasant Inn for their hospitality.
CHURCH
FLOODLIGHTING
During January and February the church has been floodlit in memory of
Bill Grose, in memory of absent friends
and in appreciation of John and Janette Steer and the village lights committee
who make our village look so lovely over Christmas. If you would like the
church to be floodlit to commemorate an event that is special to you, you can
find the envelopes to do this at the back of the church (near the entrance). It
costs only £10 for one week and you will know that the lighting up is especially
for you. During Lent the tower will not be floodlit.
MESSY
CHURCH
The next
Messy Church will take place on Sunday, 28 April, the Feast weekend, and will
form a part of the special celebrations. There will not be a Messy Church
before then in the village (sorry!), but you may like to know that there will
be a Truro Cathedral Messy Church called Lent Lanterns on Sunday, 2 March from
2.30pm to 5.00pm. Just like our Messy
Church, it is free, but booking is advised. To book a place or get further
information, please contact shelley.porter@truro.anglican.org
