TREASURER TO THE PCC Our wonderful treasurer for the last seven years, Dolly Scott, has decided to resign at the end of this year and we will be very sorry to see her leave this role, which she has fulfilled so efficiently. The PCC is now looking for a new treasurer to take on this role and we hope that someone in our community would regard this as a voluntary job they would like to take up. You do not need to be a churchgoer but rather have the desire to serve our community in this way. If you think you would be interested in this task, please call Clare Jacques on 520649 to talk about what it entails.

There is soup, roll and butter and a pudding, all for only £3.50, and we have a takeaway service as well. The lunches are all provided by volunteers drawn from the Anglican and Methodist churches.

EASTER

The Christian faith stands, or falls, on the resurrection –either we have a Living Lord who has mastery over sin and over death or we had best shut up shop without more ado. Whatever may be our personal reaction to Matthew’s account of the earthquake, the angel and the empty tomb, (Matthew 28:1-10), the inescapable evidence of the resurrection is the new life that came to broken and dispirited disciples; the renewal that has come has come again and again when the church has looked moribund and finished; we worship a Lord who meets us in the daily business of living, to renew our life and who will bring yet another resurrection in his church when we are really ready to let Him have his way with us.

You are warmly invited to join our journey to Easter

CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS

We are pleased to announce that we have been able to send a donation of £212 to the Precious Lives appeal which was collected at the Christmas lights service, the carol service and the special tree in church.  Also we have sent a donation of £158 to the Church of England Children’s Society from the collection at the crib service. At the request of the PCC it will be used by this National organisation to fund work for children in Cornwall, in which we can be involved. To find out more, the link is http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk/what-you-can-do/your-church/good-childhood-conversations

FOODBANK

Thanks to the generosity of people in the village, we have been able to give the FoodBank a further 36kg of food, which is an amazing total. During Lent there will be a FoodBank collection box in the church  so we can continue to support this charity. We would like to thank Dave and Corinne for kindly keeping our collection box in the Londis shop during December and also thanks to the school for continuing to collect food.

JANUARY’S CURRY AND QUIZ NIGHT

This event raised £200 for the church and was enjoyed by everyone who attended. Special thanks go to the quizmaster, Steve, for  his entertaining and challenging questions and to Tim and his team at the Pheasant Inn for their hospitality.

CHURCH FLOODLIGHTING

During January and February the church has been floodlit in memory of Bill Grose,  in memory of absent friends and in appreciation of John and Janette Steer and the village lights committee who make our village look so lovely over Christmas. If you would like the church to be floodlit to commemorate an event that is special to you, you can find the envelopes to do this at the back of the church (near the entrance). It costs only £10 for one week and you will know that the lighting up is especially for you. During Lent the tower will not be floodlit.
